HC Deb 26 November 1937 vol 329 cc1572-3W
Sir R. Glyn

asked the Postmaster-General what is the intake into the regular postal service of messenger boys annually; and what proportion of other vacancies does this leave in the postal service to be filled, provided candidates are suitable, by men relinquishing colour service in the Navy, Army, or Air Force?

Major Tryon

On an average about 1,700 boy messengers are absorbed annually into postmanships and other adult situations in the Post Office. Ex- service men are entitled to 50 per cent. of the vacancies for postmen, and they also receive appointments to a number of other situations in the Post Office.
