§ Mr. Crowderasked the Minister of Transport whether he will consider the introduction of legislation giving power to local authorities to schedule private residential streets as being unfit for parking either trade vehicles or vehicles belonging to strangers who are not resident in the streets concerned?
§ Mr. BurginI think that the powers available under the existing law for the restriction or prohibition of parking are adequate.
§ Mr. Crowderasked the Minister of Transport whether he is aware of the nuisance caused to private residents by the parking of other people's motor cars in front of their houses after II p.m., when the owners have gone to dances or private entertainments; and whether he will take steps, as in the case of the suppression of motor-horn noises, to prevent this type of parking after II o'clock at night?
§ Mr. BurginI do not think that any general prohibition of this kind would be workable in practice. Restrictions on parking can be imposed in any road or street where they are justified, but there would be great difficulty in distinguishing between vehicles belonging to owners of particular premises and other vehicles.
