HC Deb 04 November 1937 vol 328 c1152W
Mr. Groves

asked the First Commissioner of Works whether he is aware of the continued concern on the part of the staff employed at the offices, Deanery Road, Stratford, respecting the unsatisfactory condition of the offices, and that the only measure so far taken, following the previous representation of the hon. Member for Stratford, is the provision of an additional but temporary store-room and the installation of radiators on the stone landings; and, as the Office of Works has entered into a further long lease of these buildings, will he have the whole matter reviewed and effect improvements in the matters of heating, ventilation, and lavatory accommodation?

Sir P. Sassoon

It is proposed to improve conditions at these offices by removing the staff for one Tax District to other premises. Difficulty is being experienced in obtaining suitable accommodation for this purpose, but the matter is being actively pursued. No action has been taken to extend the lease of the premises, but the question of effecting improvements as regards heating, ventilation and lavatory accommodation is being considered.
