§ Mr. Bullasked the Minister of Health whether he can state the attitude of his Department towards the representations which have been made to him on the subject of the Brimsdown smells; and what action the local authority can take to diminish what is a growing nuisance?
§ Sir K. WoodClose attention has been and is still being given to this problem by my Department in co-operation with the local authority and the firms in the area with a view to finding practicable means of preventing the smells. Steps already taken have improved conditions and investigations are proceeding to effect still further improvements. Action to abate a nuisance may be taken by a local authority, but it is a defence to prove that the best practicable means have been taken to prevent or counteract the nuisance.
