asked the Secretary for Mines whether he will state the average wage per man-shift now worked in the coal mines; and how it compares with the average wage of 1936 and 1935?

The average cash earnings (i.e., excluding the value of allowances in kind) per man-shift worked were 9s. 3¼d. in the year 1935, 10s. o¼d. in 1936, 10s. 4¼d. in the first quarter of 1937 and 10s. 9¾d. in the second quarter of 1937.
