HC Deb 18 March 1937 vol 321 c2281W
Mr. Louis Smith

asked the Secretary to the Overseas Trade Department whether he will consider arranging periodic annual visits by British diplomatic and commercial representatives in China to the chief hinterland cities with the object of stimulating and encouraging British trade?

Captain Wallace

Every effort is made to allow of such visits being paid by diplomatic and commercial diplomatic officers, but the number and scope of their visits must be limited by the exigencies of the Service as a whole. During the years 1935 and 1936 visits to various places in China were made by these officers, and they will be continued so far as possible in the future.
