HC Deb 25 February 1937 vol 320 c2197W
Mr. Johnston

asked the Attorney-General whether he is aware that a firm called Chalmers, Guthrie, and Company, of 23, King Street, London, E.C., have been issuing advertisements soliciting deposits to their old-established merchant bank; and whether, as this bank, as shown by its last filed balance sheet, has no assets, he has taken any steps with a view to protecting the public in the matter?

The Attorney-General

No complaint has been received with regard to this company by the City Police or the Director of Public Prosecutions. If the right hon. Gentleman has any information which he thinks I ought to consider I will be glad if he would let me know.
