HC Deb 04 February 1937 vol 319 cc1799-800W
Mr. White

asked the Minister of Labour the number of places in the new hostel for girls in London available for girls coming up to London for domestic service?

Mr. E. Brown

A hostel for 42 girls, to be run by the Y.W.C.A. on behalf of the Ministry of Labour, will be opened in London in the near future. The hostel is intended primarily for girls transferred to industrial employment in the West End, who will remain in residence for about six months before moving to approved lodgings. As an experiment, 10 beds will be set aside for girls coming to London for domestic employment and requiring temporary accommodation for a few days before proceeding to residential employment. The hostel will be available only for girls transferred under the auspices of the Ministry of Labour Juvenile Transference Scheme.
