§ Captain Pluggeasked the Minister of Transport whether his attention has been called to the growing tendency of local authorities to drive public roads over or through places of public interest or amenity especially round London, and that opposition to such proposals falls mainly on local residents; and whether he will consider taking steps to supply the need for affording Londoners a greater opportunity of expressing opinions on matters which so much affect them?
§ Mr. BurginThe responsibility in these matters rests primarily with the duly elected local authorities concerned who should be fully conscious of the desirability of preserving, and if possible, of increasing amenities not only for the benefit of the locality but of the country as a whole.
