HC Deb 02 December 1937 vol 329 cc2268-9W
Mr. Kelly

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether he is aware of the unrest amongst collectors of taxes and their staff employed in the Accountant and Comptroller General's Department of the Inland Revenue Department; whether he has considered the resolution protesting against the Department's proposals on pay and overtime conditions unanimously adopted at the meeting held on 25th November of representatives from all parts of the country; and what steps are being taken to meet the grievances of the staff?

Lieut.-Colonel Colville

I am aware that the Staff Association representing the collectors and their staffs have made proposals for improvements in the pay of certain grades and for an alteration of the overtime arrangements. The discussions on pay are proceeding between the Board of Inland Revenue and the Association and in the event of disagreement it will be open to the Association to submit the matter to the Arbitration Tribunal. The case is a normal one of a dispute with regard to scales of pay and is following the usual procedure. I therefore see no reason to intervene. With regard to overtime, I would refer the hon. Member to the answer which I gave him yesterday.
