HC Deb 02 December 1937 vol 329 c2269W
Mr. McEntee

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether, in view of the fact that telegrams from China are being held up and that no information is reaching newspapers in the interior such as Hangkow, he will authorise an extension of the British official wireless service which is received directly and distributed indirectly by the British warships in China?

Viscount Cranborne

According to information at my disposal arrangements at Hankow normally provide for the British official service being made promptly available for distribution by His Majesty's ships and consular officers. Arrangements for a general extension of the machinery for the interception and distribution of this service in the interior of China are not within the control of His Majesty' s Government.
