HC Deb 02 December 1937 vol 329 c2266W
Sir C. Rawson

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will ascertain from the Brazilian Government whether they will undertake to honour their debt obligations to British subjects as they fall due and without interruption; and, failing a satisfactory reply, will he arrange an exchange clearing to remedy the losses on £100,000,000 of British capital entrusted to Brazil?

Sir J. Simon

I would refer my hon. Friend to the reply which my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs gave on 24th November to my hon. Friends the Members for Evesham (Mr. De la Bère) and Lincoln (Mr. Liddall), and to the reply which I gave on the 30th November to my hon. Friend the Member for Newcastle-on-Tyne North (Sir N. Grattan-Doyle).
