§ Colonel ROPNERasked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware that British trade with Brazil, especially in respect to our export of coal, is suffering serious reduction; and whether German competition, which is largely replacing our own imports, is in any way specially subsidised?
§ Mr. RUNCIMANI am aware that there has been a decline in recent months in exports to Brazil, including exports of coal, and that this decline is to some extent attributable to German competition; but I am not aware of the existence of any subsidy for German exports to Brazil.
