HC Deb 03 May 1935 vol 301 cc689-90W
Mr. MACQUISTEN

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he has been apprised that Dr. Schacht is considering assisting exports from Germany of the products of the heavy industries to an amount of about £83,000,000 per annum; and whether he will take steps to ensure that the vital industries necessary for the security of the country are not jeopardised by imports so subsidized?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

I have seen references in the press to proposals of the kind referred to by my hon. and learned Friend. With regard to the second part of the question, I have at present no reason to think that the home market cannot be adequately protected under existing powers.
