HC Deb 28 March 1935 vol 299 c2092W
Mr. BANFIELD

asked the Home Secretary whether it is by his authority that the creation of a monopoly has been proposed in the supply of bread and confectionery to the Metropolitan Police canteens; and whether facilities can be given for local tradesmen who have supplied these canteens for many years to tender in the usual way?

Sir J. GILMOUR

The commissioner informs me that the contract for this supply was put out to competitive tender by the Canteen Control Board. In the circumstances I cannot see that any question of a monopoly arises.
