HOAREBritish recruitment for the Indian Customs Service was transferred to the control of the Government of India in 1925 on the grounds that detailed control by the Secretary of State in Council of a Service largely recruited in India was no longer necessary, and that the Europeans required could be recruited by the Government of India through the High Commissioner for India. The transfer of control did not involve any alteration in the percentage of British officers to be obtained by direct recruitment.
