HC Deb 05 July 1932 vol 268 cc266-7W
Mr. HEPWORTH

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he has any information to show what proportion of the woollen goods imported by Canada during 1931 were manufactured in Great Britain?

Mr. HORE-BELISHA

According to information contained in the official Canadian trade returns the proportion of the total imports into Canada of woollen goods (including yarn and apparel of wool) consigned from the United Kingdom and subject to preferential rates of duty in the trade year ended 31st March, 1931, was 75 per cent. No information as to the goods subject to preferential rates of duty is available for the calendar year 1931, but in that year the proportion of woollen goods registered as consigned from the United Kingdom was I per cent. greater than in the year ended 31st March, 1931.
