HC Deb 05 July 1932 vol 268 c267W
Mr. HEPWORTH

asked the President of the Board of Trade the nature of the proposal which has been made by the Argentine Government to make the same reductions in the tariff duties against Great Britain as may be made by other countries; and if he will inquire whether this statement is to cover reductions which may be made by British Dominions subsequent to the Ottawa Conference and to include all classes of goods, especially textiles?

Mr. COLVILLE

I understand that the announcement to which my hon. Friend refers had special reference to the reduction of an Argentine tax which discriminated against whisky as compared with brandy and certain other spirits, and was to the effect that it was the policy of Argentina to grant to the United Kingdom advantages equal to any that might be accorded to any other country. The second part of the question therefore does not arise.
