HC Deb 21 December 1932 vol 273 c1102W
Mr. DORAN

asked the Minister for Agriculture if, in view of the depression in the fishing industry, he will institute an inquiry into the possibilities of marine culture, the cultivation of edible sea-weeds and ocean pisciculture, with a view to increasing food supplies in this country?

Major ELLIOT

The prospects of marine pisciculture have been the subject of careful scientific study, which has shown that its economic possibilities are very limited. I would point out, however, that the difficulties of the fishing industry are due chiefly to low prices, which are largely the result of the abundant supplies already existing.
