HC Deb 16 December 1932 vol 273 c680W
Sir G. HAMILTON

asked the Minister of Labour if he will state what is the estimated number of men employed, directly or indirectly, by the placing of an order for £1,000,000 for road work, for engineering work, and for shipbuilding, respectively?

Sir H. BETTERTON

It has been estimated that an expenditure of £1,000,000 on road construction provides employment, direct and indirect, for about 4,000 men for a year. I regret that I have no similar figures in respect of engineering or shipbuilding.
