Mr. HARVEYasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer (1) if he is aware that co-operative society funds are freely used for political propaganda; and if he will take steps to make this expenditure liable to Income Tax;
(2) whether, in view of the favoured trading position of certain co-operative societies when compared with other 244W traders, he intends to give instructions that Income Tax be collected from these societies in precisely the same way as is done from all other traders?
Mr. CHAMBERLAINThe changes suggested would involve legislation. They are therefore matters, not of administration, but of Budgetary policy, and I am afraid that I cannot anticipate the Budget Statement.
