HC Deb 26 February 1931 vol 248 c2308W
Major NATHAN

asked the Minister of Health the number of schemes submitted to him by county councils regarding the housing of the working classes in rural districts under Section 32 of the Housing Act, 1930?

Mr. GREENWOOD

I think the hon. and gallant Member has misconceived the effect of the Section which he cites. The Section does not transfer from the district council to the county council the primary duty of preparing housing schemes. It is directed to giving the county council the duty of keeping in constant review the housing conditions in the rural districts and considering the sufficiency of the steps which the district councils have taken or are proposing to take to remedy unsatisfactory conditions and to provide further accommodation.
