HC Deb 24 February 1931 vol 248 c1970W
Mr. PRICE

asked the Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that an increasing number of horses under the light-horse breeding schemes are being turned down by the buyers on behalf of the War Office without any evidence provided that the quality of the horses has deteriorated in recent years; whether he intends to restrict the number of light horses purchased for the Army in future; and, if so, whether he will inform the farmers' organisations in the country of their intentions?

Mr. SHAW

I am not aware that the suggestion contained in the first part of the question is the case. As regards the remainder of the question, the purchase of light horses for the Army must necessarily be governed by requirements, but I have no reason to believe that there will be any diminution of such purchases in the immediate future.
