HC Deb 24 February 1931 vol 248 cc1969-70W
Mr. FREEMAN

asked the Secretary of State for War the numbers of cases and of deaths in the recent outbreak of cerebro-spinal meningitis at Aldershot; whether the cause of the outbreak has been ascertained; and on what date each sufferer had last been vaccinated or inoculated?

Mr. SHAW

Up to 23rd February the number of eases at Aldershot during the present outbreak of cerebro-spinal meningitis has been 13 (including a civilian nursing sister) of which I regret to say eight have proved fatal. The answer to the second part of the question is in the negative. As regards the last part, 12 of the patients had been vaccinated, one within a week, one within a month, and the remainder from seven months upwards. Only one patient had been inoculated, and that over three years ago.
