asked the First Lord of the Admiralty the total number of candidates who appeared before the interview committees for the last entry into Dartmouth College and His Majesty's Ship "Erebus"; the numbers accepted; and the reasons for non-acceptance of the others?

Mr. ALEXANDER

28 candidates appeared before the interview committee for Special Entry Cadetships. Fifteen were finally accepted for entry, two were medically unfit, one preferred a paymastercadetship, two passed the examination but were not high enough to be accepted for entry, and eight failed in the educational examination. Sixty-two candidates came before the interview committee for Dartmouth, 34 were finally accepted for entry, three were found to be medically unfit and six were not sufficiently high on the list to be included in the numbers required to sit for qualifying examination and 19 failed in the qualifying examination.
