HC Deb 10 December 1931 vol 260 c2080W
Mr. A. BEVAN

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs the approximate amount of money invested in Manchuria by British subjects and the value of British financial interests in the Peking-Mukden Railway?

Mr. EDEN

As regards the first part of the hon. Member's question, I regret that I am unable to form an estimate. As regards the Peking-Mukden Railway, the outstanding amount of construction loans from British sources is approximately £1,000,000. There are also certain other loans of British origin which are collaterally secured on the surplus earnings of the railway.
