HC Deb 10 December 1931 vol 260 c2085W
Mr. HACKING

asked the Secretary of State for India whether he has yet received the report from the Government of India with reference to the resolution recently passed in connection with the boycott of British goods by the working committee of the Bengal Provincial Congress?

Sir S. HOARE

The meeting, at which the resolution in question was passed, was a meeting of the Bengal Provincial Political Conference. According to my present information, the resolution has not yet been endorsed by the Bengal Provincial Congress Committee, and no action to give effect to it has yet been taken. If the resolution is endorsed by the Provincial Congress Committee, or action taken on it by Congress organisations, this would represent a definite breach of the Delhi settlement. The Government of India and the local Government are watching developments, and any measures that may be necessary to meet them will be taken.
