HC Deb 08 May 1930 vol 238 c1152W
Mr. LOVAT-FRASER

asked the President of the Board of Education whether, in the recent list of appointments to assistant inspectorships under the Board of Education, he has appointed any person who has had no control over the full organisation of any school; and, if so, whether that assistant inspector will have charge over the organisation of schools in the area for which he is appointed?

Sir C. TREVELYAN

Of the candidates recently selected for appointment as assistant inspectors, one is headmaster of a central school, one is chief assistant at the school where he is employed, and one is the responsible master for the subject in which he specialises. The Board do not regard it as essential, or even desirable, that assistant inspectors should be selected solely from the rank of headmasters. The duty of an assistant inspector is to assist the district inspector in the general work of inspection in the area for which the district inspector is responsible.
