HC Deb 31 October 1929 vol 231 c358W
Major POLE

asked the Secretary of State for India if he will give particulars, in respect of the year 1928, showing the number of cases of prosecution for employing children under 13 years of age in the mines in British India contrary to the provisions of the Indian Mines Act?

Mr. BENN

Three persons were convicted of this offence in 1928, one of them being convicted twice. The report received from India does not show whether there were any prosecutions that resulted in acquittal.
