asked the Minister of Health if he can state the total number of houses completed during the six months ended 30th September, 1929, showing separately the numbers constructed for or by municipal authorities, the number built by private enterprise with the help of a subsidy, and the number built without any subsidy?

Mr. GREENWOOD

The total number of houses completed in England and Wales with State assistance during the six months ended 30th September, 1929, was 79,955, of which 35,287 were erected by local authorities and 44,668 by private enterprise. The number of houses having a rateable value not exceeding £78 (or £105 in the Metropolitan police district) built without subsidy during the same period was approximately 36,000.
