HC Deb 06 November 1929 vol 231 cc1062-3W
Mr. MILLAR

asked the Minister of Labour whether, in view of the heavy burden imposed upon the ratepayers in many areas in providing relief to the able-bodied unemployed, she is prepared to sanction the preparation of a special list of those unemployed in receipt of parish relief in each Employment Exchange, from which will be drawn, in the first instance, the labour required in connection with local unemployment relief schemes?

Mr. LAWSON

It is a general condition applying to all relief works assisted by the Unemployment Grants Committee that men may be nominated by boards of guardians or parish councils for employment upon such schemes, provided that satisfactory arrangements are made for the local Employment Exchange to be furnished with particulars of the men so engaged. There appears, therefore, to be no need for the preparation of the special list which the hon. Member suggests.
