HC Deb 06 November 1929 vol 231 c1062W
Colonel ENGLAND

asked the Minister of Labour whether it is still the practice of the Employment Exchanges to give preferential opportunities for employment to ex-service men; and whether men who volunteeered to join the Army in 1914–15 but who were found unfit for active service and transferred to the Army Reserve forthwith are considered as ex-service men in this connection or given any kind of preferential treatment to those men who did not so volunteer?

Mr. LAWSON

As between applicants of equal suitability, the Exchanges are instructed to give preference to ex-service men. Men who did not render actual service in His Majesty's Forces between 4th August, 1914, and 11th November, 1918, are not regarded as ex-service men for this purpose.
