asked the Minister of Transport whether he can now furnish a list of the works which the railway companies have undertaken to carry out consequent upon the repeal of the railway passenger duty?

The following list shows the schemes of development which the railway companies propose to carry out consequently upon the repeal of the Railway Passenger Duty.

Provision of
(i) a concentration yard at Acton 100,000
(ii) increased shed and warehouse accommodation at South Lambeth 100,000

Substitution of electric light in gas-lit stock 80,000
Modernisation of locomotive stock—replacement of 100 locomotives 350,000

London and North Eastern Railway Company:

Widening of the line between Romford Junction and Gidea Park 288,000
Provision of
(i) running loops between London and Doncaster via March 200,000
(ii) new marshalling yards at Mottram, Doncaster and Hull 581,000
(iii) additional sidings at Hartlepool 26,000
(iv) new cranes and warehouse at Royal Dock, Grimsby 94,000
(v) new cranes at Parkeston Quay 65,000
(vi) equipment for coaling appliances for 20 ton wagon at Hull and Grimsby 200,000
