Dr. MORGANasked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he has had recent information as to the effects of the recent hurricane in the Bahamas; whether the damaged houses in the poorer quarters of the coloured population are being speedily restored; whether wrecked local craft is being repaired and replaced; whether all the public services are now fully restored; and what measures of relief are now being continued?
§ Mr. LUNNMy Noble Friend has received no information from the officer administering the Government of the Bahamas more recent than a series of telegraphic reports of which the latest was dated 3rd October. I have no doubt that a full report will be received by mail. In his telegram of the 3rd October the officer administering the Government reported that the public services had been restored and normal life had been practically resumed. The House of Assembly has been specially summoned to consider questions of relief and rebuilding.
