§ Mr. THURTLEasked the Under-Secretary of State for India if he has received any representations regarding the inadequacy of the pay of the British private soldier serving in India; and if he will consider the question of increasing the rate of 2s. per day during service in India?
§ Earl WINTERTONThe British soldier in India is paid in rupees, and at present receives Rs. 1½ for the 2s. laid down for him in this country by the Royal Warrant. I am not aware that the pay is regarded as inadequate, but if the hon. Member has evidence to that effect, perhaps he will communicate with me.
