§ Sir C. MORRISON-BELL
asked the President of the Board of Education if he can state by counties, in the western area, the number of agricultural scholarships available for the sons of agricultural labourers?
The agricultural scholarships to which my hon. and gallant Friend refers are administered by my Department under a special scheme for the benefit of the sons and daughters of agricultural workmen and other countryside workers in similar economic circumstances. They are open to all persons in England and Wales who comply with the terms of the scheme, and to secure as far as possible equality of treatment of all applicants they are awarded on a national and not on a county basis. About 130 junior scholarships for short courses at farm institutes and 10 senior scholarships for de gree and diploma courses in agriculture are available annually.
