HC Deb 24 May 1928 vol 217 cc2070-1W
Mr. MACLEAN

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland the number of applications for small holdings in Scotland from 1st January, 1919, to 31st December, 1927, the number withdrawn, and the number still outstanding?

Sir J. GILMOUR

During the period mentioned, applications were received by the Board of Agriculture for Scotland for 9,755 new holdings and 2,050 enlargements of existing holdings. Without having a scrutiny made of all the applica- tions received it is not possible to give the information desired in the remainder of the question, but information available shows that of 16,226 applications for new holdings and 6,304 for enlargements received from 1st April, 1912, to 31st December, 1927, 8,039 and 1,350, respectively, had been withdrawn from the lists for various reasons, 3,263 and 1,652, respectively, had been granted, while 4,924 and 3,302, respectively, were outstanding at 31st December, 1927.
