§ Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKSYes, Sir. It is proposed to bring the number of Metropolitan police magistrates up to the statutory maximum of 27, instead of 25, the present number. One of the additional appointments will be permanent; the other, purely temporary, pending an authoritative inquiry, to be instituted this Autumn, into the whole 2477W work of the Courts, their organisation and arrangements, and into such questions as the possibility of devolving work upon county justices.
