§ Mr. DAYasked the Home Secretary whether he is aware that, under the law as it exists at present, it is possible to subpoena a young child to give evidence in criminal proceedings against its parent; and will he consider the introduction of legislation to render it impossible to take evidence in these circumstances of children under 14 years of age?
§ Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKSIt is, I think, clearly necessary that such evidence should, under proper safeguards, be available in the interests of justice.
