For the six months ended 30th September, 1928, the average cost of such rates per ton of saleable coal raised was 1.57d. The total output of saleable coal during the 12 months ended 30th September, 1928, in each coalfield of Scotland was as follows:

In 1924 and subsequent years accidents which disabled the person injured for more than three days were reportable, the limit in 1923 and earlier years being seven days. ‡ The majority of the coal mines were idle during a considerable period of the years 1921 and 1926 owing to protracted disputes.
