HC Deb 10 December 1928 vol 223 cc1720-1W
Mr. LANSBURY

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury how many clerks are at present working overtime in the Stationery Department; how many hours per week each person is working; and what arrangements he proposes to make to put an end to overtime worked in this and other Government Departments?

Mr. SAMUEL

At the present time nine clerks are each working between eight and 12 hours overtime per week owing to the incidence of seasonal work and the temporary absence of staff on sick leave. In the duplicating branch 130 operators in November worked 2,078 hours overtime, equivalent to approximately four hours per week per operator. The working of overtime is reduced to a minimum, but the unequal incidence of the work prevents its total elimination.
