HC Deb 02 April 1928 vol 215 cc1596-7W
Mr. MACLEAN

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware that the price of flour per 280-lb. sack is 38s. in Liverpool, 39s. 4d. in Glasgow, and 43s. in London; and whether he has made, or is making, any inquiry into the causes of the differences in price?

Mr. H. WILLIAMS

I am informed that the price of 39s. 6d. a sack is quoted by the Liverpool Millers' Association for middle-grade flour, 40s. 6d. by the Glasgow Corn Trade Asssociation for straight-run hard-wheat flour, and 42s. by the London Flour Millers' Association for standard-grade flour. It will be observed that the prices apply to flours sold under differing descriptions, and therefore are not necessarily quite comparable. The Food Council are considering the matter.
