HC Deb 21 November 1927 vol 210 cc1430-1W
Mr. GRIFFITHS

asked the Secretary of State for War whether it is contemplated that part of the British Army should be permanently based in India for use at any time in India or the Far East to augment the Singapore naval base; and whether he is aware of the resolution of the Indian Legislative Assembly in March, 1921, on the Esher Report, accepted by the Government of India, that they alone should be responsible for the administration of the Army in India?

Earl WINTERTON

I have been asked to answer this question. No such proposal as that indicated in the first part is under consideration. As regards the second part, I am not aware of any Resolution passed by the Assembly in the terms quoted by the hon. Member.
