HC Deb 16 November 1927 vol 210 c1051W
Colonel DAY

asked the Home Secretary whether his attention has been called to the semaphore instead of hand signals as used by the police on point duty in some of the principal Continental capitals; and whether, in view of the success of the use of these signals, he has considered the introduction of this method of traffic signals by the police in the Metropolitan area?

Sir V. HENDERSON

A system of this kind was tried many years ago in London. The question of experimenting with it afresh is under consideration.
