asked the Home Secretary what was the average number of prisoners attending the lectures and 18 concerts given in Parkhurst prison during the 12 months ending 30th June, 1926, and the corresponding average during the 12 months ending 30th June, 1927; what were the subjects of the 22 educational classes given at Parkhurst prison during the latter period; and what was the average number of prisoners attending each class?

Approximately, the average number of convicts attending lectures and concerts at Parkhurst prison in the year ended 30th June, 1926, was 376, and in the year ended 30th June, 1927, 167. During the latter period an average of 28 convicts also attended four special technical lectures; the subjects at classes were choral singing and band practice, and the average attendance at classes 35.
