HC Deb 06 December 1927 vol 211 c1199W
Colonel DAY

asked the Postmaster General the total average cost of erection for each of the telephone kiosks now being erected in the Metropolitan police area; and whether it is proposed to extend this convenience to the public throughout the provinces?

Sir W. MITCHELL-THOMSON

I regret that cost statistics in the form desired by the hon. Member are not available. As regards the second part of the question, there are already more than 3,000 telephone kiosks in the provinces.

Sir W. EDGE

asked the Postmaster-General whether the system of telephones at rural railway stations has been extended to Leicestershire; and whether in that case he will give the names of the stations so equipped?

Sir W. MITCHELL-THOMSON

Fourteen rural railway stations in Leicestershire are connected with the public telephone exchange system. The names of the stations are Bagworth, Bottesford, Castle Donington, Elmesthorpe, Glenfield, Great Glen, Harby and Stathern, John O'Gaunt, Kibworth, Narborough (goods station), Sileby, Snareston, Syston (goods station) and Whetstone.
