HC Deb 06 December 1927 vol 211 cc1198-9W
Mr. ALBERY

asked the Postmaster-General what arrangements are being made to deal with the Christmas mails?

Sir W. MITCHELL-THOMSON

The arrangements will be on the same lines as last year. In England, Wales and Northern Ireland there will be a delivery of letters and parcels on Christmas Day (Sunday), no delivery on Boxing Day, and one general delivery on Bank Holiday, 27th December. In Scotland there will be no delivery on Christmas Day. Announcements will be made locally as to the latest times for posting for delivery by Christmas Day. Generally these times will be 22nd December for parcels and mid-day on the 23rd for letters and cards; but somewhat later times will be fixed for local delivery and for adjacent towns. If the public assist the Post Office to the same extent as last year by posting as early as possible, I anticipate that there will be no difficulty in ensuring delivery by Christmas Day of all correspondence posted before these advertised times.
