HC Deb 17 February 1926 vol 191 c1954W
Mr. WESTWOOD

asked the Minister of Labour if he is aware that extended unemployment benefit has been reduced to unemployed men by the amount of benefit which ought to be paid for the children of the unemployed in the Leven district of Fifeshire; and if such reduction is being made because the children are receiving meals from the education authority?

Sir A. STEEL-MAITLAND

I understand that in one case at any rate, and possibly in others, dependant's benefit has been disallowed on the recommendation of the local employment committee on account of allowance for meals averaging 5s. per week per child made by the education authority. The matter is not free from difficulty, and I am considering the question further.
