STEEL-MAITLANDAt 28th December, 1925, the latest date for which figures are available, the number of men directly employed on schemes of work subsidised through the Unemployment Grants Committee was 33,280, as compared with 28,605 at 27th December, 1924. These figures represent the number of men actually employed on the dates given, and exclude additional men not at work on those dates for whom employment was given by means of working alternate weeks or other short-time systems.
