HC Deb 15 February 1926 vol 191 cc1558-9W
Mr. FORREST

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether he is aware that it is in contemplation to give to the Assistant Commissioners of the War Savings Committee a salary scale of £200 to £400, in spite of the fact that the staff side of the War Savings Whitley Council has represented to the Department that the work can be adequately performed by the executive officers on the normal scale of £100 to £400; and whether he will, in the interests of economy, give attention to this matter?

Mr. McNEILL

The questions of placing on an established basis some of the posts of Assistant Commissioner under the National Savings Committee and of the scale of salary which should be substituted for the present inclusive scales in that event, have been under consideration for some time, but no decision has been reached on either point, and it must not be assumed that a scale of £200 to £400 plus bonus is considered appropriate. The two classes referred to in the question are employed on different duties, and Assistant Commissioners have to be recruited at a much later age than that laid down for the executive class. I can assure the hon. Member that in the consideration of this matter the interests of economy will not be overlooked.
